Ugandan athlete Joshua Cheptegei won the 2-mile race at the Eugene Diamond League on Saturday 21 of August 2021 in the United States of America.
He finished the race in 8:09.55 beating Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega who finished second in 8:09:82.
Paul Chelimo of the USA finished 3rd in 8:09.83 while Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo came 4th in same race in 8:10.16 .
In the Women’s 3000 meters steeplechase in the same league, Peruth Chemutai finished 7th in 9:10.87 minutes, which is 01:45 seconds below her personal best. Kenya’s Jeruto Norah won the race in 8:53:65, while USA’s Frerichs Courtney finished second in 8:57:77
Halima Nakaayi finished 6th in the women’s 800 meters race. She posted 1:58:78 behind Olympic champion Mu Athing from the USA who crossed the finished in 1:55:04.
In the 1500 meters race, Winnie Nanyondo finished fourth where she crossed the finishing line in a time of 4:00.72. Kenya’s Tokyo Olympics Champion Faith Kipyegon dominated the race to cross the line with a time of 3:53.23.
The National Council of sports said Uganda was represented by Cheptegei, Halima Nakayi, Kiplimo, Chemutai and Nanyondo because they are the best athletes the country has because of their good performance in recent Olympics 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.
