FUFA President Moses Magogo Under Fire For Showing Interest In Retaining Post

The President of the Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Eng. Moses Magogo has been criticized for his intentions to contest for FUFA Presidency this year.

Magogo, who has been in the sit for two terms of 4 years each is planning to stand again to make his reign to 12 years in case he wins the seat in August this year.

According to FUFA records, he became FUFA President in 2013 and has been in the position for 8 years.

But football lovers and followers in Uganda have mounted pressure on him and his cabinet not to contest again because they feel he should give chance to other people because having two big posts one being a member of parliament is a sign of greed.

In the recently concluded general elections, he was elected member of parliament for the Budiope East constituency in Eastern Uganda.

The protests against his wish were manifested recently when a group of former footballers led by Mike Sulaiman Mutyaba held placards and protested at FUFA House Mengo over Magogo’s plans.

Underfire. Magogo has received a lot of criticism from many sections of soccer fans across the country for intentions to stand as FUFA President again.

Mutyaba, who played for the Uganda Cranes a few years ago claims Magogo should leave office and hand it over to someone else.

“We don’t want Magogo to stand again. We have many people that have potential to manage football affairs in this country, he shouted while holding placards,” he said at a demo in Mengo recently

But police at FUFA House quickly arrested him and whisked him to the central police station in Kampala over an illegal demonstration.

In a recent press briefing at Jevine Hotel in Kampala, Magogo said he needs another term because he has managed FUFA affairs well.

“I want to consolidate the gains worked upon since 2013 when I came to office. I also want to see Uganda Cranes qualify for the FIFA World Cup” he said.

Magogo’s current term of office will officially expire on 31st August 2021 and fresh elections will then be organized.

He said he has the capacity to manage two positions of being MP and FUFA boss because he has a lot of experience in football management.
