She is an artiste who has been surprising Ugandans from the time she began singing in ‘Luganda’ language despite being a Germany national. Deena who is commonly known for songs like ‘Mumuleete’ and ‘Gwe Anamponya’ is continuing to release more songs in Luganda like the fresh one which she released recently dubbed ‘Kankuleke’. A question that could sound in your mind is, how is she able pull it off?
‘Kankuleke’ which literally means ‘Let Me Leave You Alone’, is an Afro-beat song produced by Nessim of Badi Music and in the song, Deena sings about how she is uncomfortable with his boy friend sharing their love with another girl.
In the video, she is seen driving somewhere with her boyfriend in a Maroon Mercedes Benz car, the ‘boyfriend’ asks her to stop so that he can pick another girl’s call outside. As he is on phone, Deena impatiently waits but suddenly drives off due to anger because the guy exposes his arrogance by taking her for granted.
She gets disappointed with the man she trusted and loved so much and being a cheat at that, she lets him go and decides to patiently wait for the right one God planned for her.
The video was shot and directed by Lukyamuzi Bashir of Badi World and it is already doing good and getting several plays online. Musicians Radio and Weasel also commented on the ‘Kankuleke’s’ video link Deena shared on her facebook page that they promise to support.
Born in Baden-Germany, Deena real names Deena Herr, is determined to get the African languages she cherishes heard and celebrated. She thus sings in Luganda, Kinyarwanda and Swahili languages and according to sources is now signed to Ruff and Tuff records.
