When Kobs visited Heathens at Kyadondo in the first round, the former lasted 40 minutes before letting in second half tries to lose 33-17. Kobs had taken a 17-13 half time lead but their lethargic display in the second period gave Heathens the advantage to win the game and finish the first round unbeaten.

Yet, even with the title lost, Kobs  did not lie on the ground and accept to be stepped onto. It has been a stop-start season for Kobs who had to axe former head coach Mirko Dal Molin earlier in the season with the team struggling to impress. Betway Kobs put up a formidable fight to try and win this particular game for the fans that came down in numbers to show support for the blues.

Betway Kobs started the scoring earlier on in the game by taking advantage of Heathens mistakes and taking two penalties in the first ten minutes. However this run both ways as Heathens quickly equalized with two penalties. Both sides made several mistakes and they conceded a number of penalties. Brian Odongo aka Captain Fantastic steam rolled a one Ogwal Romano from heathens as he took a leadership role to help the blues get their first try from Aredo Joseph. It was converted by Kobs kicker James Ilonjat.

Betway kobs failed to convert a total of four tries that could have seen them at least win against their arch rivals. Heathens captain Romano Ogwal revealed, ahead of the clash, that the loss to Pirates was a reality check which should help them deal with Kobs better. “Pirates gave us a reality check and we have to work hard against Kobs,” the flanker said ahead of the tie. Heathens were outsmarted, outhustled and figured out by a youthful Pirates side for their first loss of the season.

The champions did not want to lose another game and they pushed hard through the Kobs defense. This led to an injury for the Kobs Captain Brian Odongo when he ended up popping his shoulder. The captain had to step off leaving kobs without leadership the rest of the game. Heathens won the game 20 -16 making them the 2017 champions. Betway Kobs are to regroup and try to win the Uganda Cup later this year.
