That Friday mid-morning downpour that went on until almost 2 PM was just a little scare, because as soon as it stopped, fans started making their way into Lugogo Cricket Oval where Swangz Avenue‘s singer Winnie Nwagi held her highly sold out maiden concert.
Organised by KT Events, the “Winnie Nwagi Fire Concert” first sparked off some controversy with her critics saying she won’t get the numbers (given the big size of the venue) but it turned out that fans showered Nwagi with love and came not only in hundreds but thousands and filled the venue to capacity before 9 PM.
Fun and enjoyments started as early as 4PM with live Dj mixes, which the revellers were seen vybing to until a few minutes past 7PM when the co-host, comedian Salvado, opened the curtain raisers’ performances.
Local artistes like Rickman, Viper Ranking, Zafaran (from Swangz Avenue), Carol Nantongo, Lydia Jazmine, Roden Y Kabako, Nina Roz, Zex Bilangilangi, Karole Kasita, Spice Diana, Fik Fameica and Sheebah Karungi entertained the excited and fired up crowd until half past 9 PM, and shortly after, there was a thrilling fireworks display to welcome ‘Fire Baby’ as she calls herself, on stage in style.
Amid fans’ loud cheers, Winnie who came clad in an all sparkling red gown kicked off her live band performance singing songs “Kirabo”, “Mbera”, “Katono Katono”, “Detergent”, “Kibulamu” (tribute to late singer and song writer Radio), “Everything”, “Jangu”, “Amaaso” collabo alongside Vinka, The Mith and Feffe Bussi, and took a brief break after.
During the break, Vinka, also from Swangz Avenue stayed on stage and entertained the crowd before Winnie returned, this time round clad in Kiganda cultural costume, alongside a group of cultural dancers and continued her performance with “Kano Koze”, “Sasi Ku Nyama”, “Kwata Esimu” collabo alongside Free Boy and then took yet another brief break, leaving the stage for fellow Swangz Avenue member Azawi to perform for fans too.
Nwagi later returned for her final round and sang “Matala”, “Olaba Otya” and “Bunsonsomola”, “Magic” and “Musawo” which were a tribute to the late record producer Danz Kumapeesa who produced before she finally concluded her performance with “For You”.
It could be told that the revellers came ready with Nwagi songs’ lyrics on their tongues as they sang lyric by lyric while cheering her up throughout her live performance, although there were some sound glitches like the microphone going off and on several times.
During her first round, she thrilled fans with some erotic dance moves while clad in a tight and slightly see through jumpsuit that was displaying her curvaceous body.
Also, due to the overwhelming revellers’ numbers, there was a little stampede in the ordinary section which was fixed in a few minutes’ time and it was amazing how almost all the top celebrated female artistes like Sheebah, Lydia Jazmine, Spice Diana, Karole Kasita and Nina Roz, Vinka and Azawi came to show her support.
