- Hugh Masekela to grace Serena stage with Isaiah Katumwa.

Renowned South African Jazz Legend Hugh Masekela, and Uganda’s Sax Maestro Isaiah Katumwa are set to perform at the 60 year rotary anniversary fundraising concert on Sunday 26th February 2017 at Serena Conference Hall in Kampala, at 6:00pm. Hugh Ramopolo Masekela (born 4 April 1939) is a South African trumpeter. He began singing and playing piano as a child. At the age of 14, after seeing the film Young Man with a Horn (in which Kirk Douglas plays a character modeled on American jazz cornetist Bix Beiderbecke), Masekela took up playing the trumpet. His first trumpet was given to him by Archbishop Trevor Huddleston, the anti-apartheid chaplain at St. Peter’s Secondary School.
Rotary Kampala has been in Uganda for about 60 years to the date and the organization has been in existence for the last 100 years. The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster. First; The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; second; High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; third; The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;Fourth; the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The concert, which is part of celebrations to mark 60 years of Rotary in the country and 100 years of The Rotary Foundation, aims to raise funds for construction of a blood bank at Mengo Hospital and a trauma center at the newly constructed Rotary hospital in Ngandu- Mukono.

I am glad that Rotary Uganda has prioritized health…’
Francis Xavier Sentamu the Rotary Uganda Country Chair said the concert will be attended by the President of Rotary International John F. Germ, the Rotary International President Nominee Sam Owori and the District Governor Jayesh Asher. Tickets to the concert are on sale at UGX 200,000 per person for Gallery Seating and UGX 500,000 for VIP seating.
