“I Will Stand As An Independent”-Singer Jose Chameleone Gears Up For Kampala Mayorship

What started as a rumour is no longer one especially after he recently confirmed. Yes, veteran local musician Jose Chameleone real name Joseph Mayanja is set to stand for Kampala City mayorship come the 2021 general elections.

In a recent press conference he held at his owned DNA Lounge located along Acacia Avenue, Chameleone gave reasons why out of the blue, he chose to join leadership which he will juggle with music at the same time

One of the reason he gave was the fact that his fans asked him to represent them and he therefore cannot turn town down their humble request. He is ready to join the race come what may

“If the people have asked me then what shouldn’t I do? I will accept because you are the same people who sowed me as a seed. So if you sowed me and I have managed to do the things I have done for myself then why not, I will come and serve you.” Chameleone explained

While asked whether he will represent any political party, the ‘Valu Valu’ singer said that he will instead come as an independent

“I don’t need to represent any political party. What has failed Kampala to be at peace is because of the political parties. The people we vote as mayors don’t have a direct relationship with the  government. They spend a lot of time in wars and pulling ropes and they don’t actually serve the people. I will simply come as an independent”

Although some people are criticizing him for considering to join politics, to him he doesn’t see it that way. He claims that he is coming as a leader not a politician
