The Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) Fashion and Billboard awards were launched at Hotel Africana in Kampala on Thursday by State Minister of Trade Industries and Cooperatives Honourable Harriet Ntabazi.
This year’s theme is “Promoting Local Content: The Role of the Arts and Entertainment Industry”
Using the example of music made in Uganda, Harriet called upon musicians to improve on the quality of their music production if they want to penetrate the international market like Nigerian artistes.
“If you are producing music, can it compete on the International Scene? Therefore, we need to improve the quality of our products and content in order to promote BUBU” she said.
She also asked them (artistes) to use their influence and power in society to market locally made goods and services.
“These people have a lot of influence and as such can increase awareness about Uganda’s unique products,” she said
The minister called them partners in development and asked them to use their various skills and platforms these artistes can communicate and change the public’s attitude towards Ugandan products
The awards will promote the fashion industry and recognize performing artists who have played a vital role in promoting locally originating products.
Ntabazi said the awards will be organized annually by the Ministry of Trade with this year’s showdown scheduled to take place on 17th December 2021.
