‘It’s Gonna Be A Special Performance For Uganda’ –Tarrus Riley Promises

Asked whether Ugandan should expect some  kind of special performance from saxophonist Dean Frazer The veteran simply replied “It’s always special” and it’s from here that the main man of the moment – Tarrus Riley picked up and declared the performances for the much anticipated Swangz Avenue All Star Concert will be ‘very special’. In fact, all of them will be special according to the Jamaican star.

The international Reggae star who jetted in the country yesterday ahead of the Bell Jamz-sponsored concert to celebrate 10 years of Music Label Swangz Avenue was addressing the press at a media briefing this morning at Mestyl Hotel in Makindye.

Frazer who is also in the country will share the same stage with Riley and other top local artistes. The 60-year old Jamaican is considered one of Jamaica’s finest brass players and has developed an international following for his sultry jazz-toned reggae music. Fraser has performed alongside legends such as Bob Marley and shot to fame when he recorded two covers of Marley, Dean Plays Bob and Dean Plays Bob volume II. Both Riley and Fraser will perform in Uganda for the first time on Friday at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The two international stars are accompanied by the by the 12-man strong Black Soil B and organizers say they have hired sound engineers from the UK to ensure a world class production where all artistes will perform live. Robert Stuart, who also doubles as Sean Paul’s sound engineer will be part of the sound and production team.

“This is my first time in Uganda and to be sincere, I don’t know much about the country other than the [river] Nile but not to sound biased to other countries really feels like home and Uganda is indeed a beautiful country that I have to explore”.  Riley told the packed press conference.

Riley said he is happy to finally be home and considers himself a ‘local artiste’ from Africa.

Swangz Avenue’s Benon Mugumbya who was so emotional at the presser could not hold back his excitement as his dream has finally come to reality as they celebrate 10-years of the record label which started as a bed room chat with friends like Viboyo before Julius Kyazze came on board to take it on the next  level.
