The say the hand that gives in abandons, receives in abandons. This must have been the phrase playing in the minds of Janzi Band fans as they thronged Zone 7 in big numbers last night to not only enjoy the music but also donate to the #SaveCarol charity drive started by Muhereza Kyamutetera and friends aimed at raising funds for Carol Atuhirwe’s treatment in the United States.
The Janzi Band, which is a 9-piece band, has become a favourite of many when it comes to live music and entertainment. The band that specialises in Traditional, Afro-fusion and world music, has a big fan base in Kampala and has also come on board to join the #SaveCarol initiative in their own campaign dubbed Coin For A Cause, Coin For Carol which will run throughout the week where they will collect cash from the fans.
Carol Atuhirwe is a throat cancer patient who is in need of funds to get specialised treatment is US. She can only breathe and eat by use of tubes inserted through the neck. Ugandans recently launched a charity drive to save her with a car wash at Panamera Bar and lounge where they raised over 57 Million shillings of the 270Million required for the trip and treatment.
The #Save Carol drive has also been taken to Mbarara Carol’s home town with a car wash as many individuals and companies joining the campaign.
Last night’s #ForCarol drive by Janzi raised some undisclosed amount of cash which will top what Ugandan’s have donated so far and Janzi will resume with the campaign at their other weekly show at the Pyramids Casino on Yusuf Lule Road in Nakasero.
As usual, the band was in top form playing sizzling music inspired by different artistes and genre’s across the world that kept the fans on their feet most of the time and dedicated the show also to great Congolese maestro Papa Wemba who passed on over the weekend while performing in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
