We thought things of artistes not performing after receiving payment ended in 2017 but Jose Chameleone has started off the New Year in trouble over that.
The information we received is that a South African based music promoter known as Zaina Muwonge has sued Chameleone for failure to refund Ug Shs 53 million for the concerts he refused to perform at. She did this through Lukwago and Company Advocates.
Through her Sezana promotions, the lady filled a case at the High court yesterday and she claims she paid Chameleone to perform in South Africa at a concert dubbed ‘Wale Wale’ in 2015 in which he was required to perform in East London, Durban, Cape Town and Pretoria but he failed to turn up and refused to refund the money. It is on this case that Chameleon has been sued for breach of contract
“I went ahead and effected part payment of Shs 15 million to the defendant (Chameleone) which he considered as a non-refundable fee of seventy percent as a contained under clause 3 of his terms and conditions that he set,” reads part of the suit.
Ms Muwonge claims that towards the due date of the concert, she further paid over Shs1 million at the request of the defendant to enable him and his entire crew process emergency passports after they had allegedly been stolen.
She further claims that she paid Chameleone more Shs 11million for purposes of transporting him and his crew to South Africa after which she also booked for Hotels that will provide accommodation to Chameleon and his entire crew but to her utter shock, the singer switched -off his phone on the eve of his flight.
Chameleone however called and apologized in 2016 and promised to make good of the frustration he had caused her in 2015 and she made new arrangements but still the ‘Champion’ musician never performed.
