Last night, the Katikiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda His Eminence Charles Peter Mayiga pledged the full support of the Kingdom to local talent especially Mesach Semakula whom he praised as a loyal servant of the Kingdom. He was speaking as chief guest at the latter’s Concert dubbed ‘Omwana wa Muteesa Nakulwala’ held at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
The Katikiro who was in the company of Kingdom officials including some ministers cracked up the crowd when he made a dig at local diva Desire Luzinda when he said that by Kitone he was talking about real talent and not what the likes of Desire Luzinda are singing now, which sent the crowd into wild bouts of laughter.
The Katikiro speaking in luganda also said the Kabaka and the entire Buganda kingdom was proud of what the local artistes are doing in trying to make an honest living while contributing positively in the growth and development of the Kingdom and country at large.
Mesach Semakula then thanked the Katikiro who was making a rare appearance at a music concert for honouring the invitation and praised him for being hard working and a man of the people. He explained this while giving a brief back ground of how he met the Kabaka’s right hand man while he was a practicing lawyer as he sought his services and was surprised by the ‘down to earth’ nature he exhibited.
Mesach who also doubles as the CEO of Golden Band had earlier scheduled the concert for Kampala Serena Hotel before changing his mind and re-scheduling to Hotel Africana a few weeks back which may have affected his preparations.
However the band was still lively with all the artistes who accompanied him putting up splendind performances from the likes of Doreen Mutiibwa, Dr Hilderman, Stecia Mayanja, Catherine Kusasila, Haruna Mubiru, Phina Masanyalaze, Abdu Muulasi, to Bebe Cool, Ragga Dee Ronald Mayinja, Chris Evans, Rema Namakula Bobi Wine and Desire Luzinda.
Semakula then closed the evening’s proceedings by performing the title track of the album ‘Omwana wa Muteesa nakulwala’ which he was launching. The song is a special dedication praising the Buganda kingdom’s Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi II as a good leader who inspires confidence and happiness in his subjects.
