Earlier on Monday, the high court was besieged by Kato Lubwama’s supporters and in the process, a New Vision reporter known as Farook was seriously beaten which forced the Judge to stop the hearing of the case in which Rubaga South Member of Parliament Kato Lubwama is being cautioned of his academic papers.
However, some online websites reported that, it was Kampala Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko who had beaten Farook because of the circulated picture that was doing rounds on social media.
The High Court in Kampala was on Monday scheduled to determine whether Habib Buwembo, a voter in Rubaga South, would institute an election petition against area MP Kato Lubwama. Buwembo, a member of the Jobless brotherhood pressure group, is challenging Kato Lubwama’s election as a Member of Parliament on ground that he does not possess the required academic credentials and that the comedian failed Ordinary level examinations when his marks were graded in result 7, which implies that he did not qualify for the award of a certificate.
During the lengthy submissions, Kato Lubwama’s lawyers led by Asuman Basalirwa questioned Buwembo’s mandate to file an election petition yet he is not a registered voter having not attached his National ID, or Voters card to the petition. So in the scuffle, the Mp’s supporters ended up beating the journalist who is yet to make a statement at the police.
He (Buwembo) adds that there is no evidence to show that Lubwama proceeded to A-level after failing O-Level or anything to indicate that the former comedian undertook any course that is equivalent to A – Level. Should Justice Oguli find merit in Buwembo’s application for extension of time, she will allow him to formally file his petition against Kato Lubwama.
