Makerere University Unveils Special Mak Varsity Awards

Makerere University is one of the biggest universities in East Africa and the African continent, which has produced popular and successful alumni from different parts of the world. It prides itself in creation of quality and longevity as it strives for the best.

The university has for the past years hosted several events and they have now come up and introduced their own awards dubbed ‘Mark Varsity Awards’. This was officially unveiled yesterday  morning at the Makerere University main building in a press briefing that aimed at introducing the whole concept and process of deciding the winners to University community and the general  public at large.

These ‘Mak Varsity’ awards will be held annually with this year’s event based on the theme ‘Motivate To Inspire’. According to organizers, any outstanding organisation, personality, current member of staff and current student may be nominated for the awards under criteria the below.

Exceptional achievement in any arena, notable endeavor which has made a difference to the University, a substantive contribution which has enhanced the reputation of the university, activity which has had a noticeably positive impact for students, staff or the local community and an individual achievement or sustained achievement over a period of time.

Speaking about the behavior of students and the negative perception the public has about Makerere University the Guild President said;

“As the 81st Gild President, our mission is really to re-brand Makerere University and improve on our going with the public and tell you about that(perception) as well which is happening to Makerere. There is always time for evreything,time for transformation and time for re-branding and this explains the Mak University Awards”.

Meanwhile, the nomination process is opened till the 30th of this month, voting will take place on 2nd of October till the 12th then awards day will be on Thursday the 15th of October in the Makerere University main hall.
