It is all over the news that a few days ago the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Mrs. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi ordered budding Luganda Flow (Luga Flow) rapper Fresh Kid to stop singing and performing at shows and concentrate on school or be taken to a juvenile prison if he fails to respect this order.
Nakiwala expressed what seemed like concern that Fresh Kid, real name is Ssenyonjo Patrick, is always missing school while busy working when other pupils at his school are studying although his manager, a one Francis Kamoga claims that the young rapper goes to school and only goes for media interviews and performances after school hours
From the time the minister issued this order, Ugandan social media users have not been amused as they say that it was uncalled for because there are other children of Fresh Kid’s age who are in the entertainment and music industries but the minister has never talked about them.
On the other hand, there are some people who are on the minister’s side but many are of the view that instead of ordering the boy to stop singing, the minister should just let the boy juggle between music and school because he does music for a livelihood.
One twitter user identified as Malingalr Tweeted and said “Suddenly Fresh Kid needs quality Education and Street kids bo baddewa!? Take all kids off the streets, rehabilitate them and give them a Good Education! Stopping him from performing in Bars can be right but a total ban is wrong! High time we talked about children’s Rights!”
Meanwhile, according to a recent interview, Fresh Kid told Chano8 that he is a primary two pupil at Kawanda Primary school and his classes stop at 1 PM which gives him ample time to do his music after school
Here are some of the reactions from social media users we gathered for you over the minister’s order that Fresh Kid should hung up his microphone and go stay in school.
