It is once again that time when Muslims enter the holy month of Ramadan and fasting. And it is for this reason that MTN Uganda in partnership with Next Media Group’s Salam TV yesterday held a Ramadan Ifter dinner for their Muslim clients, partners and media personalities to commemorate the start of the holy month.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief.
While giving his opening remarks at the dinner held at Hotel Africana, the Chief Guest Sheikh Abdul Obed Kamulegeya cautioned Muslim faithful against indiscipline and urged them to watch their code of conduct during this period. He also asked Ugandans to “observe peace, unity and love one another”.
The same message was also echoed by Sheik Suleiman Kasule Ndirangwa in his Opening Duwa prayers before the Muslims broke their fast and also observed the 7pm evening prayer.
MTN Uganda acting CEO Gordon Kyomukama said that it was a pleasure to have hosted the Muslim Community and thanked them for being partners to MTN Uganda. He also wished the Muslim community a peaceful Ramadan season.
“We are very pleased to spend this time with you as you begin the holy month of Ramadan. On behalf of MTN Uganda, we wish you the very best during this time; Ramadan is a very special time of spiritual reflection, improvement and increased devotion and worship” He said.
As part of their campaign to give back to society, MTN Uganda and Salam TV will conduct various activities to engage with Muslims all over Uganda throughout the period of Ramadan in the month of fasting.
Mr Charles Mbire the Chairman MTN Uganda, encouraged all Ugandans to adopt a spirit of giving during Ramadan while Salam TV Chairman Kin Ibrahim Kariisa expressed his desire to keep working with MTN Uganda in promotion of its brand in Uganda through the Next Media Services.
With this year’s theme being, ‘Repentance and Renewal of faith’ MTN will visit several places across the country to spread love during the holy month of Ramadan and already started Kibuli Mosque and Hospital yesterday.
The guests were then treated to a sumptuous meal as the climax of the evening before Sheikh Shafik Babu Mafu led the closing duwa.
