For a very long time now, it has always been said that Kabaka Mwanga was behind the killing of his subjects. However, in a new movie titled ‘Final Flames of the Uganda Martyrs’ slated to be premiered on May 30 at Theatre La Bonita, the facts behind the massacre are clearly explained.
The movie challenges the story, giving the actual facts on what the motive of those that did it was. It starts in Buganda kingdom of 1870 when the Baganda worshipped their gods called Lubaale.
It was then that that a witch doctor’s son asked his dad to quit sorcery. The father could not, though he graciously allowed the son to join Islam, one of the new religions in the kingdom.
Soon after that, 97 Muslims were martyred and the witchdoctor’s son was afraid. His dad got him a job as a page in the palace with the Christian converts.
As fate would have it, Christian Martyrs too were killed but the boy still survived. Later, he replaced the man who killed the martyrs. This is the background of the story.
The movie was directed by respected film maker Philip Luswata and produced by John Ssempebwa, the deputy Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Tourism Board.
It was shot in Kalangala and the red carpet premiere is expected to attract high profile guests, including the Speaker of the Eat African Legislators Assembly Parliament Hon Dan Kidega who is to be accompanied by more than 15 East African MPs, Government of Uganda officials, Mengo officials as well as the clergy.
Miss tourism queens will usher in the film fans and music will be by Frank Mbalire and Sammy Kasule in their new break away band Ziwuna.
