A sharp Kampala-based lawyer has thrown two major events into jeopardy after it emerged he registered thier names as his. Nyege Nyege music and arts festival as well as picnic-style Blankets And Wine have been thrown into confusion when a popular blogger Kakensa broke the story on Wednesday evening on his Facebook page Kakensa Media.
Kakensa in the posts also shared copies of documents from the process that were issued by Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) which included receipts for the registration of two of the biggest social events in Uganda.
Sources say organisers of the two events have been thrown in panic mode after discovering that some had shown them Kampala (sharpness) by registering the names of the events as his own businesses.
“Kampala si bizimbe, while Blanket & Wines hosts and Nyege Nyege holders were busy counting money, one astitite guy only identified as Ezra Nyakuezaibo went and registered the two festivals as his business names. He is now looking for promoters to hold this year’s festivals both Nyege Nyege and Blanket & Wines against the initial idea bearers knowledge. Olabye abantu?” Kakensa Posted on Wednesday.
The Lawyer who goes by the name Nyakuezaibo Ezra while responding to the above Facebook post confirmed he registered the two names and also confirmed he is negotiating with the organisers that there is “no cause for alarm” as he is in talks with them.
“It’s true we did register those names ; we followed the laws that govern company and business name registration. We went to URSB did a name search and found out that those names didn’t exist in their system, they were not yet registered, meaning they were available for anyone above 18 years of sound mind to use them hence we proceeded with the registration and obtained the certificate of registration
But there is no cause for alarm. I am in touch with all the parties involved and we are soon reaching consensus over the same , the status quo of all the events will be Maintained thanks”
Nyege Nyege is an annual music and arts event organized by Derrick Debru and held at Nile Discovery Beach at the source of the river Nile in Jinja while Blankets and While is a picnic-style music festival where live contemporary music rules with patrons allowed to carry bottles of Wine and blanket or mats to sit on.
Blankets and Wine happens quarterly and is organized by House Of DJs which is owned by James Byaruhanga commonly known as Byaru at Lugogo Cricket Oval. It is known for attracting a horde of the so called Slay queens and uptown youth.
Some observers with expert knowledge on the technicalities involved in registering companies thought it was a smart move by the lawyer and wondered how the organisers of the respective events didn’t think of registering the names of these mega money minting projects.
We couldn’t get any response from the organisers by the time we went to press but will keep you updated on any new developments.
