The highly anticipated UG Connect Virtual Concert is slated to take place this Saturday the 17th of July and a number of artistes have confirmed and are set to entertain their fans.
Starting with this one, the concert will be aired live on NBS TV and other TV stations every Saturday from 4 to 6PM until when musicians are allowed to operate normally following the suspension of social events due to Covid-19
Singers Spice Diana, Winnie Nwagi, Sheeba Karungi and other artistes will be the first on stage plus other artistes of different genres of music, without forgetting the comedians.
In a press conference at Next media Park in Naguru , Spice Diana said the online concerts are a good platform for artiste’s to make some money for survival because the shs.100, 000 doesn’t make any sense to them.
“When the lock down is over, we shall ask stakeholders to open up the music industry because it employs so many people. We cannot survive on hand outs from the government,” she said.
The idea of the online concert is being sponsored by Ugatunes, a new digital publishing and online distribution company that will be buying and promoting Uganda’s music locally, regionally and internationally
Other stakeholders are Next media services as it will provide its Theatre for the concert plus using their media platforms to market and promote the event.
Music Promoter Juma Balunywa of Balunywa Promotions said his main role will be to book artistes that will be performing every Saturday and said he will make sure that every one gets a chance to perform.
Events Promoter and also Next Media Services board member Isaac Ruuci said this is the only chance artistes have because Covid-19 is still with us for a long time.
“If we don’t embrace online concerts during this time. The creative industry will remain dormant and we don’t know when the world will return to normal. Its high time we start working using E-concerts,” he said.
