Last Friday at Hotel Africana, David Lutalo proved he is now a force to reckon with in the music arena in Uganda. He did not only pull a big crowd, he put up a lovely performance with his thought provoking songs like Engumba Zange, Okutte Wagumu and Yamba.
In the crowd, the debate was whether he can now be considered a top artiste, and many agreed he had joined the crème de la crème of the industry with some even suggesting he could break into the top five this year if he keeps the tempo.
For a man who just recently started his journey as a Kadongo Kamu singer (with the song Kapapala in 2008) to now be put in the same bracket alongside top artistes Jose Chameleon, Bebe Cool, Bobi Wine, Juliana, Rema, Eddie Kenzo, Radio and weasel et al is a big leap. Although whether he has arrived is a topic for discussion reserved for another day.
At the end of his ‘Akantu’ launch, he knelt to thank his fans. In a halting and almost inaudible voice, he said, “Thank You so much my fans, you have really pushed me to another level,”
Lutalo received a massive support from the mostly’ down town’ crowd who cheered him all through the performances especially while doing Mubbi Bubbi featuring Maro, Helena with goodlyf and Akantu.
Before Lutalo made it on stage dressed in a hideous ‘helmet’ and a spotless white suit, there had been performances from Rena Nalumansi, King Saha, Irene Ntale, Sheebah and Pallaso, Bebe Cool, Bobi Wine among others.
