Photos: Glitz And Glamour At Amama Mbabazi’s Daughter’s ‘Kuhingira’

Over the weekend, Uganda witnessed what we are comfortable to call the best ‘Kuhingira’ which is Runyakore/Rukiga for ‘Give Away’ ceremony as former Ugandan Prime Minister and ruling NRM party’s general secretary John Patrick Amama Mbabazi officially gave away  his beautiful niece Bridget Birungi to her longtime fiancé  Andile Ramaphosa who is son to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa,

The glamorous function which boasted of lots of eye-catching things like two presidents (Uganda’s and South Africa’s), breathtaking décor among others, took place at Mbabazi’s Kololo based house amid very tight security . Businesses, transport and other events around Kololo were interrupted for the whole day so that nothing  could stop this function’s proceedings

The guest list included bigwigs such as Ugandan Central Bank governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebire, Chief Justice Bart Katurebe, Buganda Kingdom’s prime minister Charles Peter  Mayiga, former Minister Jim Muhwezi as well as several high profile businessmen, including Gordon Wavamuno

We met almost ten years ago. I was in Beijing where I worked there as an expert while she was finishing her studies in engineering. Then she went on to do her masters. We went on to live in South Africa. She is my best friend. She knows all my secrets, even how my feet look like,”  Mr Andile Ramaphosa said in a recent interview.

What is perceived as a political rivalry between Museveni and Mbabazi was put aside as they seemed to chat in what looked like a friendly mood for the first time since they fell out.
