Photos: When Kool & The Gang Left Fans Yearning For More

When the band bowed to bid farewell to the fans, it was like that moment when a loved one boards a plane to leave for a long journey. The crowd remained static for some few seconds and the silent was awkward. Many even remained glued on their seats as they could believe the exciting show had come to an end.

Kool and the Gang the American funk, rhythm and blues band had just finished putting up one of the most memorable shows by an international act on Saturday night at Kololo ceremonial grounds in Kampala but the fans still wanted more.

The well attended red-carpet event which was powered by Tusker Malt Lager and organised by Talent Africa Group and Silk Events, the biggest disco themed production in Uganda’s history started at 8:00pm and was curtain raised by Guitar maestro Myko Ouma whose magic on the strings whetted the appetites of many a fan before Swahili Nation raised the tempo and brought back oldies memories with songs like ‘Hakuna Matata’, ‘Nyama’ and ‘Malaika’ among others.

Kool & The Gang put up a massive performance

When saxophonist Isaiah Katumwa stepped on stage next, the mood was already set and his classic Jazz session drew a huge cheer from the crowd as Katumwa performed a mix of his old and new songs to the excitement of the Jazz fans.

Kool & The Gang then made a grand entrance as Robert ‘Kool’ Bell led his team with nostalgia taking over the crowd as they reminisced the old good times of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s opening up with ‘Hollywood Swing’ that got most people on their feet who poured the dance area next to the stage.

The crowd was massive too at Kololo Independence grounds

The band performed songs top songs like the block buster hit ‘Celebration’, ‘Cherish’, ‘Fresh’, ‘Jungle Boogie’, ‘Joanna’, ‘Too Hot’, ‘Lets Go Dancing’, ‘Summer Madness’ and ‘Get Down On It’.
