It is no longer news that our very own Miss Uganda 2018-2019 Quiin Abenakyo was crowned Miss World Africa in the category of ‘Continental Beauty Queens’ as well as finishing 4th in the overall results at the recently concluded Miss World pageant that was held on 8 December 2018 at the Sanya City Arena in Sanya, China
However, after all this success, some people took to social media to spread baseless rumours how the young girl and her aides were stranded in China with no transport money, forgetting the fact that Abenakyo gave it all her heart and time in the boot camp where she spent over two months representing for Uganda to the fullest. Oh yes, her hard work paid off no wonder
On Wednesday the 19th of December, Quiin accompanied by Miss Brenda Nanyojo (the Miss Uganda Foundation head) arrived at Entebbe International Airport aboard Fly Emirates Airlines at exactly 1: 50 PM.
The excitement from her family, friends and well wishers was felt from the arrivals waiting place as they all waited to welcome Abenakyo. The entourage from Busoga where the queen hails from was seen at the peak of their excitement as they sang praise songs, ready to welcome their girl in style.
“I am very humbled and I don’t have the right words to describe what I am feeling at the moment. All I can say is thank you for the love and support, thank you for voting and being with me during my journey at Miss World. Even after coming back home, the love is overwhelming. I am glad that I was able to do this for my country” Abenakyo said at a brief press conference that was held at Entebbe Airport
Present at the welcoming of Abenakyo was the State Minister for Tourism on the Uganda cabinet who thanked Quiin for the strong heart and hard work she showcased right from the time she became Miss Uganda
“We are very grateful. I know it hasn’t been easy, you must have gone through ups and downs. Success is a choice not a chance so it must have a struggle. As a country we want to give you a total commitment to make sure that we maximize the benefit out of this” Hon Godfrey Kiwanda said
Quiin Abebnakyo was given a heroic welcome and from the Entebbe airport, she was driven in a convoy to State House Entebbe where she met the president of the republic of Uganda HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni
