By the time it clocked 6pm EA time, pictures of President Yoweri Museveni’s roadside phone call were the most trending on social media.
According to the Senior Presidential Press Secretary Don Wanyama, the big man was coming from Isingiro District yesterday where he had presided over the World Population Day celebrations and on his way, he received an important call at Kyeirumba Village where he ordered his convoy to stop. He then moved outside, sat on a chair by the roadside and started talking and after he was done, he decided to interact with the residents who had gathered to get a glimpse of him.

But with the freedom of speech and expression the president offered to Ugandans, the photos are a talking point to internet users which have trended even on regional and international media platforms with BBC having a mention. NTV Uganda also took advantage of the moment to coin an advert around the photos.
Internet then went crazy after memes started popping up from all directions especially on Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp with a ‘Museveni Challenge’ being the main trending theme derived or inspired by the president’s photos. Some Ugandans have taken the challenge a notch higher by posing by funny ghetto roadsides as they ‘make phone’ calls with others using Photoshop to create their own funny memes.

Some observers believe the release and timing of the photographs was a masterful PR act to divert the attention of Ugandans from the release of opposition FDC leader Dr. Kizza Besigye from prison. Check out some of the best below;
