They are paid to talk but when representatives from a certain moto company were invited on stage and asked what they hate about presenters, their answer was the same. “We hate radio and TV presenters because they talk a lot.”
All this was during the third edition of the Radio and TV academy awards that happened at Kampala Serena Hotel last Friday evening where media practitioners were rewarded for their work in the previous year.
Despite this function being about the media, a few presenters turned up for their only ceremony and on asking around why, those who were kind enough told us that most presenters have given up on the award ceremony because they are no longer competitive as the categories make it easy for everyone to win.
This couldn’t stop the event from going on and many were recipients of several accolades in their respective categories.
NBS TV were the biggest winners of the night as they took over seven awards including Most Improved female presenter that went to Midred Tuhaise, Urban music programme that went to KURT, Exceptional gospel programme going to Mission, Big Deal scooping TV entertainment performance as well as current affairs TV station among others.
There was no representative from NTV regardless of the fact that the situation is just a few meters from where the event was happening but that aside, they also won some awards like Exceptional sports TV programme that went to Omumuli, Popular news programme going to NTV tonight and others.
Besides the awarding, there were a few performances from Rabadaba, New Chapter Africa, a cultural dance group from Rwanda and Harmonics.
