The first-ever iHeart Radio Music Awards broadcast live Thursday on NBC from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles were attended by the likes of Rihanna, shakira,Gwen Stefanie, fashion police’s Joan Rivers, jared Leto, and many others.
The evening was not spared of the usual red-carpet drama. Selena Gomez skipped the red-carpet instead arriving solo at the awards sneaking in through the back entrance. She was rather tellingly without on off/ on, and now off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber as she attended the awards looking downcast following a tumultuous few weeks in which she reportedly had a falling out with Kendall and Kyle Jenner and also ditched all her celebrity pals on Instagram. She later put herself together and presented an award amidst thunderous applause and cheers from the crowd.
Rihanna who was the biggest winner of the night came late apparently because she was caught up in traffic. Pharrell Williams on the other hand, got Emotional after receiving the iHeart Radio innovator award and took a minute to recollect himself.Gwen Stefani presented the award to him
Some of the big names which included Beyonce, Oprah, Usher, Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato and Shakira spoke of Williams and his contributions to music in video messages.
“He was the person who made it cool to just be you,” said Beyonce.
“You gotta believe in something bigger than yourself,” he said. “I never dreamt in a million years as a producer that I would be standing here as an artist.”
Performers at the event included Pitbull, Luke Bryan, Bastille, 30 Seconds to Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, Blake Shelton, Ed Sheeran, Shakira and Arcade Fire
