Tennis star Serena Williams has come out and responded to the body shamers in the most amazing way. The 34-year old who graces the cover of Self magazine said that she loves her body,
‘I love my body, and I would never change anything about it,’ she said before going on to say ‘I’m not asking you to like my body. I’m just asking you to let me be me. Because I’m going to influence a girl who does look like me, and I want her to feel good about herself.’
The world number one who is gearing up for more gold come the Rio Olympics which are slated to start this weekend is one of the most decorated Tennis players with 22 grand slam titles. Serena also praises her body saying that it’s because of her physique that she is able to reach great heights with her career.
According to the daily mail, Her strength in the face of body shamers has made her a role model for young women the world over, but she is also a vocal advocate for keeping the women’s tennis competition considered on the same level as the men’s.
In the exclusive interview with self magazine, she further said, ‘I have this platform that other people don’t have. I think it’s important, especially as a woman, to stand up for who you are and what you believe in – and not back down.’
But it’s not all sports for her, in five years time she sees herself having a family of her own.
