Angella Katatumba one of Uganda’s celebrated female artistes and philanthropist with an amazing heart today, mourns the death of her father Ambassador Dr. Bonney Katatumba this morning. It is beleievd according to family sources and unconfirmed reports that, he succumbed to pneumonia and asthma early this morning.
Katatumba who was also the Honorary Consul of Pakistan to Uganda was born in Mbarara in 1946 and he was a self-made businessman who rose to prominence in the 1980s as a hotelier, manufacturer and property developer. He was also the president of the Uganda Chamber of Commerce for a number of years. And has been helping in the fight against cancer alongside her daughter Angella under the ‘Mulago Yaffe’ campaign as patron of Angella Katatumba Developement foundation (AKDF)
Many people will remember the business man for being the first Ugandan to acquire a personal Jet and it is also well known that at his peak, Katatumba respected for his signature businesses like Blacklines House, Hotel Diplomat, Katatumba Resort Island and Katatumba Resort Hotel in Mbarara and Katatumba Academy. His business entities inspired many and his stories documented in several books also have been used as reference for many researchers and scholars across the globe.
Many believe that one of the reasons for his health decline could be related to the the fact that in recent years his business empire had been in decline and the businessman had been embroiled in various legal battles in a bid to save his major businesses like Blacklines House and Hotel Diplomat in Muyenga from being taken over. Many of the court battles escalated into personal attacks and negative media publicity.
And therefore it is battles like these that could have subsequently weakened and probably led to his health considering he was also of advanced age. Although he managed to win most of his battles, it still left him weak and frustrated in the way all these issues were handled in the public and also on a personal level. .
We call upon all the people in the music industry to say a prayer for Angella and her family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
