Having the ability to sing songs in any genre has made singer Ykee Benda one of the most sought after local artistes in his home country Uganda
Following the success of his debut album titled “Kireka Boy” that boasts of big songs like “Farmer Remix” featuring Sheebah, “Munakampala”, “Malaika” among others, he is back with the second studio album “Kirabo” meaning gift
With the experience he has gained in the 5 years in the music industry, Benda who is the CEO Mpaka Records has had enough time to cook and finally serve what he considers as the best kirabo to his fans.
The 17-track album which he launched at Speak Resort Munyonyo on Friday the 6th of August is a testament of the 5 years he has spent in the challenging industry which to him has been a long journey of growth, challenges and birth of new relationships.
“This album has been an exciting challenge to me. I wanted to show the world what I am made of from what my fans were use to and show them new sounds and genres. I wanted to do something for everyone,” Ykee Benda said at the album launch
“Banange” featuring singer Lydia Jazmine is one of the songs off the album that fans got to listen to first before the others. It is a love ballad that celebrates African Traditional Union and it has already received a good reception by fans.
Each song on the album has a unique feel and will make you want to listen to it. “Mi Amor” is a love tune celebrating the journey between lovers. It also will make the listener reminisce on the beauty of friendship and love.
The album has more love songs, like “Liso Ku Liso” featuring Mpaka Records’ singer Dre Kali. It is clear that love songs dominated this album as it has more like “Sweet” which has a touch of Rhythm and Blues (RnB) celebrating beauty and love.
“Malahiika” got Ykee to dig deeper and create something different. It boasts of the touch of renown guitarist Myko Ouma and is based on a true story of secret love relations and the discovery of soul mates.
“Weekend” which is full of vibe and melody will ignite the good and party mood in you especially after a long and probably stressing week. Original Ykee Benda was displayed in “Control Me” which is an Afro touch groovy song that will remind of the 2016 Benda.
Rwanda was also represented on the album with a collabo titled “Umbrella” with Rwanda’s Uncle Austin. Umbrella will get covered in a an unplanned for dancing mood.
Another collabo is with Nigerian singer and producer Tekno Miles titled “Magic” produced by Selebobo from Nigeria. It brings real magic on the album which you need to feel yourself.
“Complique” featuring Gaz Mawete from Democratic Republic of Congo and “Million Dollar” featuring Kiff No Beat and BIT on the beat will get you on your toes too.
The album title “Kirabo” is one that tells a love story of patience and determination that we go through in life. A round of applause to saxophonist Joseph Sax and guitarist Myco Ouma who did a good job on the sound of this.
Then Ykee Benda decided to do things differently by doing a rendition of one of the biggest Ugandan songs of all time “Obangaina” originally sung by veteran singer Racheal Magoola. He said he personally loved this song while growing up.
Also, the remixes of “Bebe”, “Fire” and “African Belle” are typical groovy Afro-Pop tunes that will give the listener that happy and feel good vibes. “Correct” and “Party Animal” magically brought out the album theme of happiness.
To the fans of Ugandan, African and Ykee Benda music, “Kirabo” is the perfect musical gift you have been waiting for.
