After his release from prison, Kampala socialite and music promoter Charles Otim commonly known as Sipapa refused to comment about crimes that he led to his arrest two weeks ago.
Even when journalists asked, he declined to comment about the real reasons why he was arrested and detained at the Special Investigations United (SIU) in Kireka
He however said that he had been detained in a ‘safe house’ until when he was arraigned in court on 1st-July-2021 and later released
“For now, I don’t want to talk about the charges. I have spent three weeks in a store that you can call a safe house. I have seen very many uneasy things in there. So those in charge safe houses should improve on the situation there,” he told the media after his released on a non-cash court bail of Ug Shs 4million.
He was arrested on alleged possession of gun charges though other sources within security said he had been arrested for theft of three mobile phones, a laptop, and a power bank.
Upcoming artiste Record Era Butida, who was arrested with him was the first one to be released last week. He told the media that him and his boss Sipapa were framed and that they have no case to answer to police
Before Sipapa’s release, Singer-turned-politician Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine had put pressure on police to release or charge him instead of detaining him without trial
“I am calling for Sipapa’s production in court so that he faces his charges before a competent court. Like all citizens, he is entitled to a free and fair trial even if he rejoiced when others were unlawfully arrested and tortured.” Read Bobi Wine’s statement about Sipapa’s arrest in part,
The controversial socialite will return to court on 23rd, August, 2021.
