Hosted by NTV’s Douglas Lwanga, the annual Purple Party used to take place once a year in December but Douglas, a TV presenter who has fans all over Uganda, he decided to start the party’s tour which began last year with districts Jinja, Mbarara, Lira and Gulu respectively.
Well, in 2017 the tour returned with a big bang and last night the 29th of April, for the second time, Jinja town experienced this event that brings Uganda’s local artistes and other entertainers closer to the fans through performances. Held at Bax Bar, It kicked off as early as 5:30 PM with the Purple Carpet session that caught revellers’ attention as they posed for photos, with the women taking the lead.
Although there were surprise performances from artistes who were not announced together with the event’s headlining ones, one who attended will agree with Chano8 that attendees were kept entertained from the first to the last performer. Kampala based performers like Dj Shiru, Selector Jay and Dj Brian, Gravity Omutujju, Maro, Lil Pazo, Big Eye, Leila Kayondo, Kent and Flosso, Ykee Benda, Fille, Zil Zil, Fik Fameikha, Topic Kasente and New York had spectacular performances that gave attendees value for their entry fees.
On the other hand, there were performances from Jinja-based artistes namely Park U, Zedicas The Jamaican, Solomon, Shaba M, Armstrong and Tommy Race. With the next edition slated for Mbale on a yet to be identified date, Purple Party is still the word on the lips of the people who filled both the VIP and ordinary sections of Bax Bar Jinja last night and the party was sponsored by SMS ONE, NTV Uganda, Club Pilsener, Fanta and I Factory Africa companies.
“Purple Party is a party where we celebrate Ugandan local stars talents, we don’t bring Jamaicans but people you are used to.” Douglas Lwanga told the revellers
