Retired sergeant Steven Sempagala alias Kifulugunyu, the first singing soldier has passed on.
It is claimed that he died from over consumption of alcohol as he was found unconscious on a verandah in one of the suburbs of Kampala.
Retired Sergeant Kifulugunyu helped Uganda in the liberation struggle in the 80s and was officially awarded with a Luwero Triangle medal during the liberation day that took place at Golf Course grounds in Masindi town at the start of this year during a ceremony that marked NRMs 31 years in power.
Famed for songs like ‘Omwoto Na Waka’ and ‘Aishaganisha’, the musician has been selling polythene bag drinking water & popcorn in public places for a living after he retired from the army.
He will be remembered as the chief composer of morale boosting songs during the bush war
