The Speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah has passed on.This was announced by President Yoweri Museveni via his official Twitter account.
“Countrymen and Countrywomen. It is with a lot of sadness that I announce the death of the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, the Speaker of Parliament. I got information of this sad news at 10.30am, East African time from People that have been with him and the doctor that was caring for him in the intensive care unit,” the president tweeted.
He added, “He was a good Cadre. I delayed the announcement so that his children would be informed first. May His soul rest in eternal peace.”
Oulanyah has been hospitalised in Seattle U.S since February 3, 2022 when he left Uganda on a chartered Uganda Airlines Flight UR 2, plane registration number 5x-NIL to the US in a very critical state.
The Chief Justice, Alfonso Owiny-Dollo, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, Democratic Party president Norbert Mao and Oulanyah’s brother Francis Emuna left the country on Tuesday to check on the Speaker’s health.
This sparked rumours of his death on social media which was later rubbished by government.
Omoro County Member of Parliament, Hon Jacob Oulanyah was elected the Speaker of the 11th Parliament replacing Rt.Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.
Oulanyah was elected Speaker at the First Sitting of the 11th Parliament held at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Monday, 24 May 2021.
Burial arrangements will be officially announced on Tuesday according Milly Babalanda.
