The Mirinda Miss Teen Grand Finale was held over the weekend at UMA Show grounds in Lugogo, Kampala with lots of pomp and fun as the teens had a blast while cheering their favourite contestants as they tussled it out for the coveted crown.
There is always one winner at the end and St. Peter’s S. S Nsambya’s Daphine Atugonza emerged the overall winner as she was crowned Mirinda Miss Teen 2017 amidst lots of screaming from her fans and fellow students after a grueling and competitive action-packed pageant. The main aim was to reward the most creative, fashionable and confident contestant who will represent and inspire the rest till 2018 in different areas concerning the youth especially the teenagers.
The event which kicked off as early as 10Am started with a DJ session where DJ Ali Breezy with her colleagues took the teens in a fun-filled dance session with lots of club bangers and teens favourites hits blaring through the speakers.
The hosts of the day Sheila Saltoft, Mc Casmir and MC Talha kept the youth engaged throughout as the contestants took part in different activities like creative dances, modelling and business proposals as well as the most ambitious teen with winners of the different categories walking away with goodies from the official sponsors Mirinda.
The contestants coming from different schools across the country made it to the finals through regional school tours and were introduced to the crowd at about 1:40pm as they showcased their dance moves and cat walking skills.
There were modelling sessions to display the creativity of the aspiring fashion designers to determine Miss Fashionista that kept the Judges Humphrey Wampula of Urban TV, DJ Jero and former winners busy throughout.
In the end they had to come up with winners for the day after awarding and compiling the marks with Miss Daphine Atugonza taking the day and being crowned Miss Teen 2017.
Others winners were; Lisa Nabachobo from Nabisunsa Girls Secondary School and Eliza Adidi from Seeta High School who took the first and second runner-up positions respectively.
Blessing Mwesigwa from St. Josephs Girls Nsambya was crowned Miss Ambition as her project of making counter books impressed all the judges while Esther Namitala of St. Peters Nsambya and Shanita Uwekitinisa from Eden International School were crowned first and second runner-up respectively.
In a tight category, Elizabeth Adut from Eden International took the Miss Fashionista crown after beating Shenon Bahemuka from Nabisunsa and Tamara Kibuuka from St. Lawrence Horizon who finished as first and second runner-up.
Entertainment came from some the teens favourites artistes like YKeeBenda, Fille, Vampino, The B2C trio and their artiste of the moment Latinum who is a teen himself.
