The world of tennis woke up to good news that American super star player Serena Williams has confirmed she is pregnant. Serena who is the most successful female player of the Open era says the pregnancy is 20 weeks old and happened just 12 weeks after winning her record 23rd Grand Slam.
According to her official representative, the 35-year old American is due to give birth in the autumn and will miss the rest of the season with her last participation coming at Melbourne which where she emerged victorious.
The world number two posted a picture on social media app Snapchat, posing in a mirror with the message: “20 weeks”, before deleting it. The news also confirms Williams won the Australian Open while roughly eight weeks into her pregnancy.
Reports indicate that she will return to world number one next week and also be eligible to retain her ranking under the WTA special ranking rule if she is ready to play her first tournament within 12 months of giving birth.
She is next expected to take part in a grand slam till 2018 at the French Open which will take place four months before her 37th birthday
