Yesterday at Sheraton Hotel, Total Uganda launched its second edition of the Total Startupper challenge, a competition that aims to support innovative ideas of talented young people across the continent.
This year’s edition has seen participant countries rise from 34 to 54 countries. There will be 3 winners from each country and a new category ‘female entrepreneur” has been added in order to encourage participation from women and girls.
Criteria for selecting winners will be based on feasibility& potential, social & community impact and innovativeness of the project or idea. Previous winners from Uganda were Samuel Malinga who scooped the first prize, Owana Arthur and Gloria Kalyango who came second and third respectively.
Mr. Patrick Mweheire MD Stanbic Bank Uganda was named as the Startupper ambassador. The list of the Jury includes SOS Villages Uganda Country Director Mrs. Ms Olive Birungi Lumonya, Mrs. Janet Bugembe, Mr. Aga Sekalala Junior of Ugachic, Mr. Caleb Owino MD Fireworks Advertising, Mr. Sam Ntulume MD NC Bank, Mrs. Florence N, Mr. Samuel Malinga Winner 2017 Total Startupper challenge, Mrs. Julian Adyeri Omala MD Delight Uganda among others.
