Travelers From Uganda Banned From Entering The UK Because Of Covid-19

The prevailing situation of the second wave of covid-19 has forced the United Kingdom (UK) to ban Uganda and other 57 countries on the ‘red list’ from travelling to the nation until further notice.

As the travel bans start on the 1st of July, 2021, the UK said in a statement that the decision was made to prevent the Indian Variant type of Covid-19 from spreading to their region through travelers.

“Finally, with concern growing over the virulence of new variants emerging around the world, travel was banned altogether from around a quarter of the world’s countries mentioned above,” Reads the statement in part

The statement also indicated that only UK, Irish and British citizens will be allowed into the country at this time.

“UK is forbidden for everyone except British and Irish citizens and official UK residents. All other travellers will now be turned away at the border,” the statement read.

Those travellers who are able to return from ‘red list’ countries must also provide a negative test result on arrival from within the past 72 hours, along with a passenger locator form.

They have to quarantine in government-provided hotels at a cost of Pounds 1,750 per head which will cover food, accommodation, transport and testing costs.

Since February, all arrivals in England (regardless of whether they are having to quarantine at home or in a hotel) have also had to take tests on days two and eight after they arrive.

If either of the tests come back positive, then the traveller will have to quarantine for a further ten days from that date. Steep fines apply to anyone who fails to take tests, provide information or quarantine in a hotel.
