Jose Chameleone has been nominated yet again for Tanzania’s premier music accolades Kilimanjaro Tanzania Music Awards(KTMA).The Tanzania Music Awards are national music awards held annually in Tanzania. They are also known as the Kilimanjaro Music Awards or the Kili Music Awards after their sponsor (Kilimanjaro Premium Lager). The awards were established in 1999 by the National Arts Council (BASATA) under the Tanzania Ministry of Education and culture.
Chameleone who has been nominated and won several times before, won the Best East and Central African Artiste in 2007, an award he has now won more than three times beating the likes of Nameless, Koffi Olomidde and Awilo Longomba in the process. This time round two of his latest hit songs ‘Badilisha’ and ‘Tubonge’ have been nominated for ‘The East African song of the year award.
The two songs are tussling it out with other strong contenders among which are ‘Kiboko’ by Amani featuring our own Goodlyfe duo of Mozeh Radio and Weasel TV. The music doctor and the Goodlyfe boys have enjoyed alot of regional and international recognition for their work recently which has seen them being nominated for BET awards, ChannelO, Kilimanjaro and World music awards among others.
Moze Radio and Weasel broke away from Chameleone’s Leone Island crew in 2008 and six years later, they are now rubbing shoulders with their mentor on the same global platform alongside the big boys in the international stage. They have been representing Uganda very well and even their relationship which had hit rock bottom since the breakup, has greatly improved this year. The Goodlyfe shared the same stage at Chameleone’s Tubonge live East African concert at the end of March at the Cricket Oval in Lugogo Kampala and have been on the same wave length since praising each other for the respective contributions in the music industry
Chameleone who won the award for best East African song for ‘Valu Valu’ in the same awards last year is favourite to win again this year due to his big fan base across the region. He has also been there before and done it over and over again. The other Nominees in the same category include ‘Kipepeo’ by Jaguar and ‘Nakupenda pia’ by Waire featuring Jamaican Diva Allaine.
