The NBS After 5 presenter was yesterday unveiled as the Brand Ambassador for betting company ChampionBet Uganda at a media briefing held at Levels Lounge in Kitante near Kamwokya.
The mega deal whose logistics and financial breakdown was not revealed to the media “for confidential reasons”, will see the experienced TV presenter promote the brand’s activities and responsible betting in a society where the subject is very sensitive due to the negative connotations attached to it.
According to management, they settled for the TV personality because of his big brand and image that have generated a big online following for him which they think they can tap into.
Mr Kikonyogo Denis the Business Development Manager for ChampionBet Uganda, echoed the importance of media and a personality like Lwanga who they think the partnership can go a long way in spreading the gospel of responsible betting and gambling across the country.
“We appreciate the work the media is doing and know how important it is for the business (betting) that’s why we have decided to work closely with you people and think Douglas Lwanga is the right person to champion our cause of socio-economic and brand awareness targeting social responsibility in communities”. He said
Lwanga’s main strategic assignment is targeting a segment of society especially the youth and with specific responsibility of building a relationship with media and the online community.
Douglas Lwanga clarified on rumours that were already making rounds online that he had quit his TV job
“I want to categorically state that I am still working with NBS as the host for After 5. I was chosen by ChampionBet after they did research on the targeted market they wanted to penetrate and felt I was the right person for that”. Lawanga emphasized.
Among the responsibilities assigned, Lwanga will be deeply involved in the company’s CSR campaigns, Activations across the country, guiding on brand image and pushing the brand online.
When asked by this reporter about the length of the contract, Kikonyogo said the deal is open and details involving logistics and finances remain confidential although with time, they will add on another ambassador (especially a female one ) on board.

Kikonyogo also warned the public against irresponsible betting saying, betting should not be viewed as a source of income but rather as an entertainment and luxury. “This is the reason we brought Douglas Lwanga on board to make it clear to the public.”
