UBL Fine Tunes Bartenders And Owners To Curb Drunk Driving

Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) today took time to bond with bartenders and owners to negotiate ways how to involve them in handling drunk driving. UBL organized a training, dubbed the Responsible Serving training under their umbrella strategy “Red Card Campaign” in which they tipped the bar operators on how best to save their customers’ lives.

In his remarks, UBL National Promotions Manager Ronald Tumwizere informed the participants that people go to the bars to find happiness, so the operators should make sure they make them happy, but most importantly keep them safe.

Tumwizere gives bar operators tips for preventing drinking and driving

He used his very interactive speech time to exchange information with the participants, getting to know from them the traits of drunk people as well as telling them very interesting facts about alcohol misuse. He later passed on notes of caution to all the operators.

“You don’t want to be the bar owner from whose bar customers die due to drunk driving. You people are saviours, and whenever you step out there, you should know you have gone to save lives” he said.

In an exclusive interview with chano8, Mr Tumwizere said they had been to the public already and this training was important to engage the bar operators.

“The public has been engaged through social media and billboards. These people know these things, but it is important to stress to them the importance of reducing drunk driving” he told Chano8.

He gave tips like spacing drinks with water, having meals before and while drinking to delay absorption of alcohol as well as having contacts to boda boda riders and cab drivers who can drive the drunk customers home.

The attendees were very grateful to UBL for organizing the training.

“The talk inspired us on how to handle customers especially the unfriendly ones” said Elizabeth Abbo a bartender at Cityville Bukoto.

“They gave us certificates which will also improve our CV and give us more endorsement” added Gerald Stephen Bwambale of Fusion Auto Spa Munyonyo.

The day was concluded by a certificate awarding ceremony to the attendees as a qualifier for attending the training.
