Uganda Has Same Talent As Rest Of The World – John Barnes

Liverpool and England Legend John Barnes says Ugandans have the same level of talent as the rest of the world especially Europe but on difference is in Opportunities in developing and nurturing the talent to professional standards.

Barnes who was speaking to journalists and Liverpool fans during a viewer party organised in his honour at Riders Lounge on Acacia Avenue says youngsters aged between 5-12 years in Uganda, are the same as those in say England. The differences start showing as they grow up between 12-18 years where the Europeans have an advantage and upper hand over their African counterparts due to logistical differences where the advanced countries have better facilities to nurture talent.

“The talent is there in Uganda but there has to be sustainable infrastructure in place for football to develop in the country” Barnes said

He says if the same facilities like soccer academies and state-of- the art stadiums with gyms etc were to be set up here; Uganda would also produce superstars in the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who went through good soccer academies to become the world’s best players.
