Information reaching our news desk has it that the cabinet on Monday approved Uganda’s bid to host this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs)
It is said that the cabinet noted that by hosting the event, Uganda will be showcased to the Pan-African and global audiences and in the process, tourism and investment will be boosted.
MAMAs will help Uganda be showcased across 48 countries in Africa and 60 territories around the world via international Media Networks channels that will broadcast it. Besides that, the event will provide a platform that empowers Ugandan and other African artistes to create diversity and excellence.
Kenya was the first country in East Africa that hosted the awards back in 2009 where singer Nameless and his wife Wahu (also a singer) won big at the awarding night. The 2008 and 2010 events took place in Nigeria, first in Abuja and then in Lagos.
Uganda has only had a few artistes nominated in these prestigious awards including Bebe Cool, Eddy Kenzo and Goodlyfe among others.
The MAMAs recognizes and rewards musicians and achievers who have made the most impact on African music and youth culture. We are still waiting for a confirmation whether this will come to pass.
