A campaign to search for talented youth in music, dance and drama was a few days ago launched by the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).
The competition named The Pearl of Africa (POA) Star Search, a campaign designed to identify and promote Uganda’s fresh musical talent in the different regions around Uganda.
It will run from the 9th of April to the 17th of July 2021 and show time will commence by participants sending in their 2-minute audition videos online. Sixteen (16) of the best acts will selected for the four (4) regional music retreats and tourism challenges.
The retreat will determine the top 12 finalists who will then proceed to the boot camp where they will be thoroughly trained on music and Ugandan tourism. Finally, the selected top 12 will take part in the elimination shows. The shows will have popularly known Ugandan artists and tourism experts that will feature as judges and jury.
While at the launch, UTBs’s Sandra who spoke on behalf of Lily Ajarova the CEO Uganda Tourism Board had this say
“POA Star will give a platform to your aspiring tourism ambassadors in Uganda by recognizing and rewarding the participants that excel in the competition, with that said, I’m also excited to see all the great talent that comes out of this”
Also at the same launch, State Minister for tourism Godfrey Kiwanda said that the winner will be Uganda’s next tourism ambassador whereas Talent Africa C.E.O, Ali Alibhai said the company will offer their best to make this event a success.
Judges will include musicians Cindy Sanyu, Navio and Joanita Kawalya.
The partners for this competition include the Uganda Tourism Board, MTN Uganda, Coca-Cola, NBS television, Talent Africa, Radiant, Graphics Systems, Uganda Talent Managers Association,
Others include House of DJs, TAG Studios, Uganda Wildlife Authority, Uganda Wildlife Education Centre and the Uganda Musicians Association.
