Uganda Waragi Launches DJ Competition Dubbed ‘UG Mix Maestro’

With an overwhelming number of youths getting interested in deejaying, a platform has been set up to enable Deejays exhibit their talent by Uganda Waragi after they launched a three-month long campaign dubbed “The UG Mix Maestro”.

The campaign will seek to recognize and celebrate the unique talent that deejays have to offer with a countrywide campaign that will feature a number of activities like bar activations, in-store special promotional offers, house parties and regional tours that will include deejay battles.

It is organized in collaboration with the DJ Association of Uganda (DJAU), an umbrella body formed in 2014 that brings together all DJ’s/VJ’s in Uganda.

The UG Mix Maestro will explore and recognize talent, set a foundation to professionalize the Ugandan DJ industry and celebrate and honour DJ’s contribution to Uganda’s music industry.

“This campaign will recognize DJ’s from all walks of life countrywide and reward them along parameters well-aligned with the ever-evolving definition of innovation, originality & professionalism. The regional tours will take us to Central, Eastern, South, Western and Northern Uganda. Each will be an explosive experience with deejay battles from the finest DJ’s, cocktails, music, entertainment and so much more. The next three months are going to be packed with excitement,” said Charles Lwanga, CEO, DJ Association of Uganda (DJAU).

The campaign will come to a close at an event that has been named the UG Mix Maestro Grand finale at which, top deejays in various categories will be crowned. Some of the awards up for grabs include Best Male/Female Battle DJ, Rising Star Award, TV DJ of the Year, Radio DJ of the Year, Events DJ of the Year, Club DJ of the Year, Gospel DJ of the Year and Outstanding Achievement Award.

The awards will be adjudicated by three judges who are also professional DJ’s. These are Liven Peters (DJ Rox), Adero Marianne (DJ Maryjo) and Walye Seth Ciza (DJ Ciza).
