Before the Black Panther movie, only a few Ugandans gave a hoot about Daniel Kaluuya. In fact, most didn’t even know him neither did they know that he was nominated in the Oscars in the ‘Best Actor’ category.
Despite losing out on that category to Gary Oldman, the Ugandan British-born was not a big loser as the movie in which he stares in won something.
Get Out, a movie in which he is one of the lead actors scooped the award for best ‘Original Screenplay’ in the 2018 Oscar awards that happened last night. In this movie, Kaluuya acted as Chris Washington, whose commendable performance earned him a name globally.
Kaluuya was dressed to impress at the 90th Oscar Awards ceremony held at the Los Angeles-based Dolby Theatre. His sharp Brunello Cucinelli bronze velvet blazer with black satin lapels made him among the best dressed for the evening.
‘Get Out’, a horror movie which also received a nod in the Bafta Awards became the surprise U.S. hit of last year after it grossed 175 million ponds at the box office having been made on a budget of just £3 million pounds.
Kaluuya picked up the BAFTA Rising Star award last month thanks to his stellar year on screen. He has stared in other movies such as “The Shape of Water”, “The Big Sick”, “Lady Bird”, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing” among others.
