The dog show is one event that attracts people with dog pets from all corners of society, but the event is more of gathering and having fun. Unlike in previous occasions where the event used to take place at Kyadondo rugby club, this year’s event is taking place at Kabiira country club in Bukoto on the 2nd of August.
The idea of having a dog show was conceived five years ago by Nicholas Ndirangi and his partner Armstrong Manano when they were watching a video of a UK dog (Crafts) show on TV. From there they thought if they could do it in Uganda for both glamour and business, it could be a new idea on Uganda’s annual entertainment calendar.
This year’s event will have people showcasing the various dog species, a red carpet photo shoot and dog fashion show while in the working dog category, there will be various disciplines such as; tracking, attack, tricks and stunts, obstacle course maneuver and obedience.
In its 5th year now, the theme will be “man’s other best friend” and new packages like Dog racing and dog showcasing from Uganda police, Anti-terrorism and the Uganda Prisons K-9 units will be introduced.
There will also be participants from Kenya and Tanzania during this edition and they will be invited to showcase mostly in the working dogs category, because over the years it has been the most competitive category.
The winning dog owner will receive a trophy and a 20 decimal land courtesy of Jomayi Property consultants, the 1st runner up dog will win food for a whole year while the 2nd runner up will win food for 6 months
Each participating dog is charged UGX 50,000 and will participate in all categories.
In other points to note, Entry charge for adults will be 20,000 and 10,000 for kids and there will also be entertainment and surprise acts by some of Uganda’s celebrities.
