Victoria University Vice chancellor Mr. Lawrence Muganga is grateful to and full of praises to the Ugandan media industry for reporting about his recent arrest and detention by Ugandan security agencies.
The university’s CCTV camera videos posted online showed Muganga being arrested in broad daylight from his office by armed men in plain clothes
After securing his release recently, he in a special way, through his official social media platforms said thank you to the public, media houses, bloggers and social media practitioners the media for reporting about what we call his unpleasant arrest and advocated for his freedom
“Before Thursday 2nd September 2021, you were my staff, my friends, my students, my well-wishers, my fellow Ugandans. Today, you; public, diaspora and media houses, bloggers, social media practitioners are my family, a family I can count on. I am so grateful for the all the support and love you showed me during the darkest moment of my life” Read his statement.
Meanwhile, Muganga was arrested yesterday on Thursday last week by a team from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and Police Crime Intelligence Directorate on suspicion of ‘spying for a foreign country’ and working in the country illegally.
He was released on Friday the 3rd of a September and it is reported that his released came after President Museveni’s intervention
