Vodafone Uganda And Liverpool FC Partner To Coach Youngsters In Kampala

There is a big opportunity for youngsters in Kampala to learn and shine as Vodafone Uganda today announced a huge partnership deal with Football Club through its Liverpool FC International Football Academy to run a 10-day soccer clinic in Kampala for over 400 children between the ages of 5 and years.

The Clinic which is also expected to unearth and develop talent in the country will be headlined by England and Liverpool legend John Barnes. According to Vodafone Uganda CEO Allan Richardson, this program could unearth ‘the next David Obua, Ibrahim Sekagya or Farouk Miya’.

“At Vodafone we are all about empowering people ad communities. This partnership will give aspiring young footballers in Uganda with a dream to become world class football players, the opportunity to be coached by one of the world’s most famous football clubs – Liverpool FC  plus a once-in-a-lifetime chance to interact with John Barnes.”He said

The 10-day clinic targeting mostly underprivileged school-going children in and around Kampala will run from April 27 to May 7 in partnership with Edgar Youth Academy at the Lugogo National Hockey Stadium.

The clinic and coaching sessions will be conducted by professional academy trainers and coaches from Liverpool International Football academy and about 25 local coaches within Kampala running similar youth related projects.

Children are expected to apply with the help and consent of their parents who will compete for 480 available slots in the camp from about 22 schools already identified from Kampala.

The program is expected to run annually depending on the success of this particular clinic and some of the top kids will be followed up to see progress.

John Barnes who is expected to oversee the program and also interact with fans said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be extending our programme to Uganda. The fundamental principle of the programme is to provide a unique Liverpool FC experience to local players both on and off the pitch. Our highly skilled coaches are committed to delivering coaching sessions that encourage young, talented and aspiring players to excel and learn in a fun and safe environment.”

He will also be hosted at a viewing party with Liverpool FC Fans Club as Swansea take on Liverpool in an English premiership game on Sunday, April 30 at Riders Lounge in Kololo.
