What To Expect As Batalo Dance Festival Returns For 7th Edition

Dance enthusiasts have something to celebrate as the annual Batalo Dance Festival is returning at the Ndere Cultural Centre with the 2019 editi0n.

Expected will be traditional dance fused with urban market and dance workshops, competitions, showcases and performances from all over Africa and the world at large.

This is going to be the 7th Edition and it will be starting on  Saturday the 31st of August until the 1st of September.

 The festival is going to be a roundup of a year of monthly workshops (The Equation), Kuhamahama in Butaleja district and regional dance exchanges with dancers from around East Africa, DRC and Ethiopia.

However, before the event, Batalo East will have an academy which is a 5-day intensive dance programme, from 26th to 30th August. It is a unique opportunity for 40 dancers who have applied from around Africa to participate in classes taught by local and international experts like Ms. Namakula Amina from Uganda facilitating the Traditional dance workshops, Uganda Taekwondo federation who will take on the physical health and fitness program for the participants and moving into Dance from the republic of South Africa, renowned and acclaimed international dance choreographers on dance pedagogy, fusion technique, choreography and conditioning.

Dancers and spectators are welcome with tickets available at just Ug Shs 10,000 and 20,000 for Saturday and Sunday respective for adults and free for kids under 10 years old.

Batalo East was formed on the basis of building a bridge between traditional and urban dance, encouraging young people and dancers to value and incorporate traditional African art forms into their lives and artistry, alongside their development as global citizens and artists on the international stage
