She is the Oxfam International Executive Director and we are not surprised she has such a job because she has leadership skills and experience right from the years she was the ambassador of Uganda in France, the Mbarara Municipality Member of Parliament and many other areas she worked in.
3years down the road as Oxfam’s top leader, this week she was appointed to the first ever United Nations High Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment. Winnie 57 received the appointment’s good news from Ban Ki-Moon the United Nations (UN) General Secretary.
“Winnie Byanyima said: “I am honoured to serve on this ground-breaking panel and to bring Oxfam’s vision and leadership on economic development and gender equality to the fore.”
“Just over 20 years ago in Beijing I was involved in setting the global agenda on gender equality and women’s empowerment. More recently, the Sustainable Development Goals have women’s rights at the heart of development issues. Our ambition for gender equality is crystal clear, we now must work to achieve it.” Winnie Byanyima added.
Winnie, the official wife to Forum for Democratic (FDC) founder retired Colonel Dr Kiiza Besigye will be working with the President of Costa Rica HE. Luis Guillermo Solis, and the CEO of IKEA Switzerland, Simona Scarpaleggia who will co-chair the panel. We have to say congratulations to Winnie upon landing yet another big deal.
